Happy New Year friends! Are you as excited as I am to say goodbye to 2020?
This past year was difficult for so many reasons and I think a lot of us let the day-to-day stress really get the best of us. Just so you know, that’s ok, we’re only human.
However, what’s important is that we don’t stay in this place. We have to pick ourselves up and move forward.
A new year can be the momentum we need to do just that!
If you are looking to increase the overall health of your body this year, then I want to recommend two tonic herbs that can help. Tonic herbs are designed to be consumed on a daily basis. They are designed to support the systems of the body from the nervous system to the digestive system. Some even support our lymphatic system, our adrenals, and our vital organs like our liver and kidneys.
Tonic herbs are a true blessing from our mother earth and I honestly can’t recommend them enough.
Here are my top two favorite tonic herbs and ones that I consume every day.
1.) Stinging Nettle - Urtica dioica Urticaceae Family: the salty flavor of this herb tells you it’s high in minerals like silica, sulfur, chlorophyll, and iron. It is also high in B vitamins and many others. Honestly, this herb supports all systems of the body and provides so many nutrients that your body will start to crave it. It provides the body with lasting energy and also helps rebuild the adrenals. It is a slight diuretic, which is good because it is actually flushing the kidneys and has even been known to help expel gravel from the bladder. This is an herb I consume first thing in the morning as a long overnight infusion. It needs the hot water plus the overnight infusion processes to pull out all the vitamins and minerals. I can’t say enough about how nutrient-rich this herb really is!
2.) Oat Straw - Avena fatua Poaceae Family: a sweet and calming herb known to, not only, relax the nervous system but also to actually heal nerve endings. Another extremely mineral-rich herb, high in calcium, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, zinc, and silica. It is also high in protein. Known as the “herb of immortality” this herb is slightly mucilaginous which means it provides support to the mucus membranes of the body. It can soothe an inflamed digestive tract or any other mucus membrane in the body needing assistance. Oat Straw is a great herb for heart health as it assists in strengthening and toning. This herb is also best as an overnight infusion, however, I enjoy this one cold so I place it in the fridge in the morning and then sip on it throughout the day.
It sounds almost too good to be true, right? But that is the magic of herbs!
I challenge you to add these herbs into your life this year and then to just watch and see how your body responds.
There is nothing better than waking up every day feeling healthy, strong, energized, and ready to take on whatever 2021 might try and through at us! Now is the time. Let the plants do what they do best!
