Better Than Sleep is a blend of valerian and passionflower designed to facilitate sleep by relaxing the body and calming the mind. If you find it difficult to fall asleep due

to spiral thinking that just won’t stop or if you wake during the night and have trouble falling back to sleep then this blend is for you. Valerian is a powerful antispasmodic and sedative, supporting the muscles of the body in finding deep relaxation. While passion flower is beautiful at shutting off the monkey mind that can keep us up at night. Together they make a perfect blend to aid us in finding deep restorative sleep.

Passionflower, Passiflora incarnanta

Passionflower’s name comes from its beautiful flowers, thought to represent Christ’s crucifixion. Five stamens for the five wounds, three styles for the three nails, and white and purple-blue colors for purity and heaven. The herb has valuable sedative and tranquilizing properties and has a long use as a medicine in Central and North American herbal traditions, being taken in Mexico for insomnia, epilepsy, and hysteria.

Passionflower is widely known to be used for cases of anxiety, tension, irritability, and insomnia. Its gentle sedative properties make it a mild non-addictive herbal tranquilizer, reducing nervous activity and panic. Passionflower is also known for its valuable painkilling properties and is given for toothaches, period pains, and headaches. However, Passionflower is best known for its ability to support those dealing with insomnia and disturbed sleep patterns. All in all Passionflower is a powerful yet gentle herb that supports our nervous system in a variety of ways.

Valerian, Valeriana officinalis

Valerian has been used as a sedative and relaxant at least since Roman times. It helps relieve stress and has become an increasingly popular remedy in recent decades. It is a safe, non-addictive relaxant that reduces nervous tension and anxiety and promotes restful sleep. Valerian reduces mental over-activity and nervous excitability, helping people who find it hard to switch off the mind. It is beneficial for almost any stress-related condition, and in general has a calming, rather than directly sedative, effect on the mind. Many symptoms of anxiety, including tremors, panic, palpitations, and sweating, can be relieved with valerian, It is a useful remedy for insomnia, whether caused by anxiety or overexcitement. Valerian relaxes over contracted muscles, and is helpful for shoulder and neck tension, asthma, colic, irritable bowel syndrome, period pain, and muscle spasms.

How to Use

Take 1 to 2 droppers full 15 - 20 minutes before going to bed or upon waking in the middle of the night.

This blend doesn’t “make you sleepy” it relaxes the body and calms the mind facilitating your ability to fall asleep. Because of this it can also be used during the day if you find your spiral thinking is causing some anxiety.

Better Than Sleep can also be used for muscle spasms like restless leg, period cramps, or even growing pains.

The Story Behind The Formula

Better Than Sleep is the first blend I formulated back in 2019. It came to me after many nights of waking with extreme anxiety. It was so bad I would have to get up and pace the house. At this point I had no idea I was living in toxic mold and was just learning of my hormonal imbalance. The racing thoughts of how I was “falling” at life would creep in night after night leaving me feeling incredibly helpless and alone.

I knew the plants would support me as they always had. It was in the middle of the night that this blend came to me. Valerian in brandy was my herb teacher's go to for issues with relaxing and unwinding but I knew it wouldn’t be enough. I needed to calm this monkey mind that was feeding me lies all night long and I knew passionflower would do the job. This formula is incredibly simple yet incredibly powerful. I am continually blown away by how supportive this blend truly is.
